For example, Geico, Progressive, or Esurance? Are they accurate if you are honest about the information? And even though they don’t ask for the VIN number?

No they are not that accurate. They’ll just give you a general idea of what you might pay. You have to go through the broker and they determine what you will pay based on your age, driving record, vehicle you are insuring and the coverages required.
I tried the online quote once and what I paid was actually $ 300 less than what was quoted on line, so no, they are not that accurate.
